New Merchandise

We've had so much new merchandise come in lately that we're really tired!!

________________________________________________________________________
We've just received a shipment from Memory Box with a lot of dies from their new release. We're really excited about some of these new dies and apparently we're not the only ones.  Two of them sold out while they were sitting on the counter waiting to be hung up!  Below are some of the latest arrivals.

We've also gotten two new lines of paper from BoBunny.  The first is called Enchanted Garden and it really fits its name.  The second is called Lemonade Stand and has some very summery looking papers.

We are pleased to announce that we will have Eileen Hull, die designer for Sizzix, teaching a class for us.  You may have read about her, since she is hauling a vintage trailer full of supplies as she travels around the country.  She has given us the following information to share with you about the class.  Call now to sign up.

Bloom Box
Time: 2 1/2 hours
Cost: $37

Learn tips and techniques from die designer Eileen Hull using ScoreBoards dies - specially designed to cut and score thick materials like matboard and chipboard. These dies are unique to Sizzix and produce a satisfyingly sturdy project that may be enjoyed for years.

This super versatile 3" box, also known as the Artist Trading Block, is filled with Eileen's 3D flowers made using an everyday household staple. Inside the embossed and inked box is a hidden mechanism that pops the flowers up and down! It can also be decorated in a MULTITUDE of other ways and Eileen will have vintage suitcases full of samples to share. Bring your cameras!

You will have a chance to get inky with Eileen's new ColorBox BlendsTM - a new ink, applicator and reinker all in one - and hear how a trip to the dollar store gave birth to a product line!  Blending these pigment inks gives a vintage look to the flowers, but add more layers of color for a brighter effect.

Materials to bring:  Red line tape (1/4 inch), scissors.

Confusion?

I need to clear up a little misunderstanding about the Susan's Garden Class for June.  In the June 19th class, we will be making cards using the aster and zinnia dies pictured below. The pictures from a previous post, "Schedule for June," are from the May 20th class and were posted in error. Sorry for the confusion.

Just a reminder........There is still room in both of Nathalie's classes on June 5th.  If you haven't done many multi-media projects, they are a lot of fun and all of the techniques you will learn can be easily applied (either individually or in combination) to card-making.  Call now to reserve your space.

New Photos

WHEW!!!  The tag sale is over - what a day!  Actually, we had a really good day with everyone finding some wonderful bargains and many people getting some welcome store credit while making room for new supplies.  Thanks to all of you who participated.  Don't forget to pick up any left-over items that you brought to sell.  Remember, the deadline for picking up is Tuesday, May 20th.

June 19th we're holding a class using Susan's Garden dies from Sizzix.  Susan (not that Susan, but our Susan) has completed the projects for that class and we're posting the photos now so you can plan ahead.  The cards are beautiful and we know you won't want to miss this.

Our shipment of red line tape has arrived, so those of you who've been patiently waiting, ....Come on down!  We've also received a new shipment of book cloth (including a nice red faux leather) and the magnets should be here Wednesday.

Schedule for June

I've been working really hard to get the materials ready for next month's classes.  I sure hope you find something you like.
                          --Kelly

Below is the completed schedule for June.  We have some new and exciting ideas for you to try.

  • June 5th - We're excited to have Nathalie Metivier here again from Magenta Stamps.  She will be teaching a number of multi media techniques which can be adapted for use on cards, scrapbook pages, or canvas.  You will leave the class with a 4x4" and a 6x6" piece of art.  If you haven't taken a class with Nathalie before, she is extremely creative, an excellent teacher, and a lot of fun. Just bring your basic class kit, and Nathalie will provide everything else.

  • June 12th - Graphic 45 Cards - In this class you will make 6 beautiful cards using only three sheets of Botanical Tea paper. The look is classic Graphic 45.  You will need scissors and tape.

  • June 19th - Susan's Garden- You will use the flower dies from Susan Tierney Cockburn to make absolutely gorgeous flowers that look incredibly real.  You will make a lilac card and a white dogwood card and will leave with the materials to make a pink dogwood on your own. Bring a couple styluses of different sizes if you have them along with your tape and scissors.

  • June 21st - Bare Bones Book Class - Jane will be teaching the basics of Hidden Hinge book building in this all day class.  See the previous posting for details.  The class will start at 10:00 and end between 4:00 and 5:00. There will be a short break for refreshment, and a light snack and drinks will be provided.  Feel free to bring a bag lunch, as there will not really be time to leave. This class is filling up fast, so call soon if you're interested.

  • June 26th - Stencil Class - This month's stencil class features three cards using a beautiful dogwood stencil. These cards are stunning and the following pictures do not do them justice. Bring your spatula and Picaso if you have them.

  • June 28th - Peel-Offs and Dies - We'll be using some new materials from Elizabeth Craft Designs to create some amazing cards.  The cards have not been designed yet, but will definitely use some of their new dies and peel-offs, and possibly some glitter and shimmer sheets. Stay tuned for pictures as they develop.

Susan's Garden Class

Happy Mother's Day from the Ladies of the Nest!  Can't think of the perfect gift for that special Mom on your list?  How about a gift certificate from the Stamp and Scrap Nest?

Tuesday, May 20th, is our Susan's Garden Class.  The "Susan" is Susan Tierney Cockburn and she has designed a series of dies for Sizzix that are extremely lifelike.  Some of you took a class with these dies last month and asked for more.  We will be making two cards, one with either a pink or white dogwood, and one with a lilac branch.  The pictures are below.  The class will be held at both 10:30 am and 6:30 pm and the cost is $15.  Call the store now to sign up.

Previews of Coming Attractions

Save the dates!!

We have a couple of events coming up that I'm sure you won't want to miss.

Nathalie Metivier from Magenta Style Stamps will be teaching a class for us on Thursday, June 5.  The class will be held at 10:30 am and will be repeated at 6:30 pm.  Although she hasn't sent us any samples yet, she will be doing some mixed media cards, and those of you who have taken classes with Nathalie before know how much fun she is to work with.  She will also be bringing a trunk show of Magenta products, so this will be your chance to buy the same merchandise you will see that weekend at the West Springfield show, but you can get your 10% class discount.  The cost of the class is $35 and you can call the store to register.
(860-658-9023)  The photo above is not necessarily representative of current class projects.

On Saturday, June 21, Jane Jones will be teaching a Bare Bones Book Class.  In this class, you will make a hidden hinge book similar to books we have made in previous classes, but this time we will concentrate on the basic construction - making the cover, spine, hinge, and pages. You will assemble the book with pockets and flaps using magnet closures.  The book will go home to be decorated with papers and embellishments of your choice. Allow six hours for the class.  Materials for the book are included in the cost. You will need to bring red line tape, 1/4-1/2 sizes, 12" paper trimmer and Martha Stewart Score Board.  All of these items are available to purchase at the NEST. Your basic tool kit (scissors, bone folder, ruler, pencil and a pair of fine tip tweezers) is also a must have. The class will be held in the downstairs hall at First Church, on the corner of routes 10 and 167 in Simsbury.  We will begin the class at 10 am and will run until about 4:00.  There will be a short break at about 1:00, so feel free to bring a brown bag lunch.  A light snack and drinks will be provided.  The cost will be $45.  Space is limited so call ahead for your spot.

Make 'N Take

It's almost lunch time so I want to take this opportunity to post photos of this month's Make 'N Take.  Hopefully we'll see you on Saturday between 10 and 4.

We're still working on samples for some of the classes, but we do have a few to post.  These cards are from the Funky Folds class on May 8.  There will be another card, but it's design is a surprise. (It's still a surprise to us too.)

Saturday, May 10th, is our next stencil class.  Below are the three cards we will be making that day.  One uses the faux cross-stitch method, one is pasted on acetate, and one is done with copper paste on paper that has been augmented with mica watercolor paint.  This should be a really fun class and you will leave with three beautiful cards.
