Make 'N Take

Our highly trained staff are waiting to fulfill your every need.

This Saturday is Make 'N Take and I know some of you are anxiously waiting to see pictures. (You know who you are!) We'll be doing three cards and a mini accordion-fold album. Drop by anytime between 10 and 4 and make as many projects as you like.  The cost is $2 per item.

This card can be made with either a yellow or a white daisy on the front.

This little album opens and a long folded strip opens out for photos.

We also have some new pictures for our May classes.

The May 12th box card class has been such a hit that we have already filled two classes, so we've opened up a 2:00 class.  We've also added a third box to the class.  In addition to the Graduation Box and the Beach Box, you'll be making this smaller Farm Girl Box which folds to fit in a standard A-2 envelope.

On May 26th we are making a Book Box (not to be confused with the box cards above).  This keepsake box would make a beautiful gift and could be used to hold jewelry or other treasures.  You'll be covering the box, lining it with stick-on velvet sheets, and making flowers using a Susan's Garden Die Set. Due to time constraints, we will have some parts prepared for you.

New Plain Jane Book!

I promised pictures of the new Plain Jane Artisan Style Book as soon as it was finished, and she just brought it in.  With great anticipation, we've all been going through it, and it definitely lives up to our expectations.

It uses the "Artisan Style" line of papers from Graphic 45 and has a definite Art Nouveau feel. For those of you who requested a waterfall, Jane has included two different kinds of waterfalls in this book.  Here is the front cover:

And the inside cover and first page.

If you're interested in taking this class and haven't already signed up, call now and reserve a space. (860-658-9023)
Classes are Wednesdays 5/6 and 5/20 from 10 to 6, or Saturdays 5/9, 5/16, and 5/30 from either 9 to 1 or 2 to 6. For those taking the class, in addition to your regular supplies (including lots and lots of red-line tape), please bring a chisel point black Magic Marker or a Sharpie (not a fine point) to ink edges of chipboard pieces.

OOPS!!

It took me so long to finish the last post (because my furry friends refused to help) that I forgot to post information about one of the classes.

On Saturday 5/23, we are making a Rose Card and Lined Envelope.  The card is made using a new die and some washi tape from "Little B," a company we haven't worked with before.  The card is really pretty, but the exciting part is learning to make the envelope look as if it's lined with gold foil by using wax paper and a washi tape technique. We will also throw in another project just to keep you on your toes.

We just returned from the Collins Show, an education and buying show near Boston, and we've ordered some new stamps, dies, and papers.  Watch this space for previews of coming attractions.

May Schedule

I tried to enlist some help in making the schedule for May, but apparently it was nap time and nobody wanted any part of it.

So I typed it all by myself, and there are lots of classes to choose from.  Call the store (860-658-9023) to register, and remember that if you pay ahead, you get 10% off of any purchases the day of the class.

  • Wedding Cake Explode Box -Tues. May 5 -  Need a wedding gift card holder that turns into a gorgeous keepsake?  You will make a box which, upon opening, "explodes" to reveal a beautiful wedding cake.  It's fun to make and even more fun to give.

  • Artisan Style Plain Jane Book Class-   Wednesdays 5/6 and 5/20 OR Saturdays 5/9, 5/16, and 5/30. Saturday classes are either 9 to 1 or 2 to 6.  Jane is currently finishing the book so I don't have a photo, but those of you who have seen her other books know how beautiful they are. This book uses the Artisan Style line of paper from Graphic 45 and will include a couple of new features that have not been in her other books. I will post photos as soon as they become available.

  • Glitter Cards - Thursday 5/7 - Make two beach themed cards and one tag using peel-offs and microfine glitter.

  • Box Cards - Tuesday 5/12 - These cards are so much fun to make! They fold flat to mail but open to stand up like a box overflowing with goodies.  We will be making one graduation box and one beach-themed box.

  • Intro to Copic Markers - Tuesday 5/19 - Have you always wanted to learn how to color with dimension and shadow and form? Have you tried to use Copic markers on your own but aren't quite sure how to get the right look? Then this class is for you. You will learn about the color families and the numbering system, how to refill the markers and change nibs, and how to use the markers to create that beautiful shaded, streakless image. You will receive five free markers with your class fee.  Bring any markers you own with you, and if you already have any of the colors we're using, you can color with your own and choose a new free color. This class is guaranteed to change the way you look at coloring.

  • Shutter Cards - Thursday 5/21 -  We tried this class once before and it was very popular.  When you open these cards, it's like looking through a camera lens. The lens opens to reveal an image or sentiment.  We will be making a spring card and an owl graduation card.  Learn this technique and use it to design cards using your own smallish stamps. (Pictures will be posted when the cards are finished.)

  • G45 Book Box - Tuesday 5/26 - In this class we will take a 5x7 Graphic 45 Book Box and make it into a lovely keepsake box.  We will decorate the box using the "Time To Flourish" collection, then we will decorate the top of the box with sculpted flowers we'll make from "Susan's Garden" dies. We'll decorate and include some mats in the box. Although we don't have a photo yet, this promises to be a beautiful project and a lot of fun to build.

  • Stencil Class - Thursday 5/28 - You will make three cards using the cattail/sunset stencil. These would be great for either dads or grads.

MANY THANKS
Thanks so much to everyone who helped to make Monday's class with Graphic 45 such a success. Charee and Dustin did a fabulous job and their class was extremely interesting and informational. They brought with them a wonderful display of other projects using their products and I know many of us found that very inspiring. So many of our customers follow G45 very closely, and it was very fulfilling to be able to work with them.

Supply List

I didn't forget pictures of the real stars of the show, but you'll have to read all the way through to see them. In the meantime, we have been talking with the Graphic 45 people about the class they'll be teaching on April 13th, and for those of you signed up to take the class, here is a list of items to bring with you.

Please definitely bring the following:

  • Scissors (fine detail scissors for "fussy cutting")
  • Pencil
  • Paper cutter that will cut 12" paper
  • Sanding block or emery board
  • LOTS of adhesive (like Red Line Tape, Miracle Tape,  tape runners or ATG tape gun and refills)
  • Strong glue (like Glossy Accents or Beacon 3-in-1) or other wet adhesive

If you have the following items, please bring them.  We will have some available to share.
  • Crop-A-Dile
  • Scalloped border punch
  • Bone Folder
  • Un-du

Some of you have asked about the following and you may feel free to bring them if you like.
  • Ink pad for inking edges of paper
  • Ott light (Just remember that you will not be close to a receptacle and a battery-operated light or a long extension cord would definitely be in order.)

The class is being held at First Church in Simsbury, around back on the lower floor in Palmer Hall. For those of you who have never attended any of our classes at the church, the address is 689 Hopmeadow St, and it's located across the street from Fitzgerald's Market.  The doors will open at 10:00 am and class will begin promptly at 10:30. We look forward to seeing everyone there for what promises to be a fun-filled three hours.
